Thanks to the support of our members and donations, we have been able to start several promising projects since July 2005.
A note to all visitors of this website: Should you like to visit our projects in Zanzibar, or simply spend your vacation here,
we can advise and help you plan your trip. Please contact JUTTA NEDORN for more information at june9@gmx.de.

We look forward to your visit.

Report 3 - 2007

Since December 2007 we rent a house, which is located direct to the Nungwis Supermarket.

In this workshop we made different constructions, to start a school and workshop for hotelbusiness.

Women from the village get the possibility to get free education in this area.
They learn for the period of 6 month all things about hotels and restaurants.
After a small examination, they get a certificate, which helps them to find a job in one of the bigger hotels or restaurants.
Also they get free English lessons, and basic knowledge in accounting and marketing.

For this project we need your donations. We need all the electric things like oven, fridge, freezer, furniture, and books.

Thanks to a substantial grant from the German Embassy in Tanzania, we were able to
complete construction on the Nungwi library in June 2007, which we started in December 2006.
Located on the grounds of the local school, access is free to all villagers.
There are currently approximately 300 books and will hopefully grow with further donations.
We need books in both English and Kiswahili - book donations are graciously welcomed!

Report 2 - 2006

Thanks to the support of our members and donations, we have been able to start several promising projects since July 2005.

In August 2005 we started to build a small school in a neighboring village of Nungwi - in Kilindi.
The school has two classrooms and the structural work is finished. The organization bought the material and
local hires have done the construction work by themselves. The last part which we need to complete is the roof,
while we are momentarily out of funds to finish.

In September 2005 we started to build a fence around the Nursery School of Nungwi and received great support from the owner
of a wonderful resort here called MNARANI BEACH COTTAGES.
We built a big playground inside the fence with a climbing construction, a swing, a seesaw and slide.

In January 2006 we started a project in the village with local girls and women to make bags out of recycled plastic shopping bags.
This bags can be used as shopping - or schoolbags. During this project we used the opportunity to create a consciousness about both
recycling the environmental impact on the local environment. Perhaps one day there will be a little production with this bags or mats
and the women can sell them to earn their own money. It's been a great start.

Since February I teach different subjects to secondary classes - Form 1 and Form 2- and, hopefully, through example,
we can help the teachers and their students to get new ideas of teaching, and learning.

At the end of March 2006 we again received a big donation from the pharmaceutical company NOVARTIS. They sent many packets of CO-ARTEM.
This treatment is one of the best medications against Malaria. The rainy season starts at this time every year and young children are at a
heightened risk of malarial infection. The poor population is not able to buy malaria drugs, so that, sadly, a lot of the children die.
Our organization "JAMBO- ZANZIBAR.e.V" distributes CO-ARTEM free of charge to any child tested positive for the disease.
We can, and have, saved lives.

At the end of 2006, we started to build a library for the school, due to the support of several generous donors.
The basic frame is finished, but again, we need more donations to continue.

Also since December 2006 we started to give meals like rice-porridge, bread and water to the students of the primary school twice a month.
Many children here in Nungwi don't get a meal daily and are suffering from malnutrition.
We would like to distribute these meals free of charge once a week.
Now there are about 900 students in the primary school of Nungwi.

We truly hope to continue our support in helping the poor population here- especially the children - to have a better chance to develop, in all ways possible.

We are very thankful for your support, and would ask you kindly to continue with your generous donations in 2007.

With the help of several generous helpers and in just a short time "JAMBO ZANZIBAR"
has already achieved the following:

1.
In January 2005 three cartons filled with English books, sports material, writing and painting supplies (60 kg)
were sent to the school in Nungwi in Zanzibar. The school in Nungwi was very appreciative about this material
and started to work and play with the sponsored material immediately.

2.
In March 2005 the people of the village in Nungwi received 800 pieces of makuti - woven palm tree leaves -
to build a roof for the meeting place in the village, where they congregate, talk and watch television.
This roof helps to protect the villagers and children from the sun and the rain.

3.
The kindergarten, which they started to build, was given 10 small chalk boards for writing, coloured pens,
papers and 4 footballs.
